Summer 2015 we walked by a campground in our neighbourhood. It started us thinking that we should get out and explore more of our province and country. Of course there is always the worry of what will we do with the dogs? An RV, we thought, would be the perfect solution to seeing interesting places in our own pet-friendly accommodations.
But what? The search was on. We started by looking at tear drop trailers like the T@B, then our thinking got bigger and bigger. We found websites and blogs about people who live full time in their RVs - every day a new adventure. Cool! That took our search to Class A, B and C motor homes. Then reality hit - we are not full timing so we started looking at trailers. The problem with RVs is the vast majority are quite ugly (no offense to those who love brown boxes) and they are not well made.
Enter our search for an Airstream. Stylish (to our taste) and well made. With only five dealers in Canada, they are not easy to find. We ventured down to Seattle in September to see the different styles and sizes. We were sold - an Airstream or nothing. With the weak Canadian dollar, cross border shopping was put on hold.
Fast forward to this spring 2016 and our friends contacted us, to say they were selling their 19 ft, 2008 Safari and are we interested? Yes. Yes, we are. So that's how Phoebe came to be ours. Her name was actually suggested by the previous owner and we love it.
We are set up at in a seasonal site at Shadybrook Resort at Seba Beach. Our plan is to get out and explore with Phoebe but we also like having a home camping base that is only an hour away from Edmonton.
Our tow vehicle is a 2008 Dodge Dakota named Red. We bought the truck in anticipation of purchasing a trailer. It came with a tow and breaking package as well as the cap so it was ready to haul a trailer. It's working well for short flat hauls. However, we are always on the look for a better tow vehicle.
